The Blog Website
The blog website is a great way to communicate with parents and students. Since so many people are on their phones and electronic devices all the time, it makes sense to make their childs education assessible online some how. I would try to make a blog to communicate with parents so they are very aware of what's going on in their child's learning.
Base Ten Blocks
Base ten blocks are a great way to show place value to students. In my second grade class, it helps the students to see what value they are looking at. They don't even have to see the symbolic they can just hear the verbal. They think it is a game to see if they know the place value for the base ten blocks. I use the elmo in the front of the classroom and put the base ten blocks on it for all students to see.
Teaching Using Manipulatives
During a math lesson I found that teaching using manipulatives is a very helpful way of gaining students' interests. I used little clocks to have students show what time I called out verbally. The students really got into the lesson when we used this. I would say the time and tell them to hold it up high so I could see it. They got really excited and enjoyed the task!!
